This IDEAS Group meeting (for members only) is postponed from 22 May.
Peter Thompson introduces a discussion on the topic "Should scientific investigation and applications be regulated?"
Peter hasn't suggested any specific background reading - I thought of BSSRS (the British Society for Social Responsibility in Science) but it appears to be defunct. There is however Scientists for Global Responsibility.
You mught also like to read last year's BBC Richard Dimbleby Lecture, which was given by Craig Venter (the genome in the Human Genome Project is specifically his one) alongside his wife Barbara Rae Vernter's Law Group's website.
And although hitting the news less often, maybe more important are topics relating to science and the military.
Then there's the issue of funding "big science" research projects in a world with so much poverty and hunger.
Congratulations, Peter, on coming up with such a rich topic for discussion.
Any other reading suggestions - please let me know asap and I'll update this information.
