News and opinion

22 October 2020: Leicester Secular Society is supporting the campaign of the National Secular Society against exceptions in the Equality Act 2010 that were originally intended to accommodate historic religious privileges. These are now being used to undermine efforts to to build a fairer Britain, and safeguard and positively promote the rights of everyone. See the report "Faith-shaped holes: How religious privilege is undermining equality law".

12 September 2020: Autumn edition of Leicester Secularist (No.84) - Mubaraj Bala blaspemy charge - The Church of QAnon - East Midlands railways - George Fox - Jankaar - A brief history of allotments in Leicester - Cycle Inner Tube Endurance Test - these and many other articles in 16 pages of news, comment and reviews from LSS.

27 March 2020 - Zoom Talks. We are replacing our regular Sunday evening events at 6.30pm with a shortened online version at the same time. These will consist of a short talk followed by discussion. Details will be circulated each week. We are experimenting so please bear with us if everything does not go entirely smoothly initially! The events will take place on the internet via Zoom, which is a programme which allows groups of up to 100 people to meet together. If you want to take part in this experiment, you will need the following:
1. A laptop/tablet/desktop or phone with a camera.
2. You will need to download Zoom which is free. You can do this by going to: https://zoom.us/download and from the Download Center, click on the Download button under “Zoom Client For Meetings”. This application will automatically download when you start your first Zoom Meeting.
At the time of the meeting, usually 6.30pm on Sunday, you will need to click on the link that will appear with the event details in our email or email contact@Lsec.org.uk for login details
We are also starting a weekly online session on Thursdays at 6.30pm for general friendly chat.
